Sandersville is nicknamed "The Kaolin City," or "Kaolin Capital of the World." Kaolin is fine white clay used in hundreds of products, ranging from paper to cosmetics to the nose cone of rockets.

Sandersville Regional Technical Institute, located in Sandersville, is a two-year unit of Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education.

According to 2000 Census, the City of Sandersville had a population of 6,144 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population decrease of -2.3%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%.
